The majority of these systems have been installed on privately owned large farms and estates throughout Ireland, Wales and Highland Scotland, all producing clean, green electricity directly into the National Grid.

Due to our location and our engineering experience we felt that the opportunity was there to get actively involved in this field. Approximately 10 years ago we undertook our first mechanical installation of such a scheme, thanks to Caledonian Energy. The scheme was at Rumbling Bridge, West of Kinross, Perthshire. Since then A & B Services have been involved in the installation of over 10 systems, in places like Inver Garry, Duror, Loch Awe, Lochaline and Glen Lyon with the latter systems being designed and developed by Shawater Ltd.

We are also involved in the maintenance of some of the systems, which have been installed in our area. This can involve anything from full maintenance contracts with full responsibility for the repair and maintenance of the scheme to emergency call outs to faulty schemes.

The ability to design schemes depending on the head of water (i.e. water pressure) and flow rate enable the flexibility to install turbine and generator combinations to produce KW outputs from 350kw up to 950kw using a Pelton type turbine.
